Leonardo Michelangelo
[[Leonardo, the Balance]] and [[Michelangelo, the Heart]] (the Turtles) lead a five-color [[symbol:w]][[symbol:u]][[symbol:b]][[symbol:r]][[symbol:g]] turbo deck built like Blue Farm, the Tymna / Kraum deck. It draws cards early, then tutors for a [[Thassa's Oracle]] (Thoracle) or [[Underworld Breach]] combo and wins on a turn when it can protect the combo.
Core Gameplan
Start with mana and a draw engine, then use Michelangelo as a cheap commander and a source of Food. An attack enables his raid trigger in your second main phase. Add Leonardo when his counters will grow useful creatures, especially [[Pollywog Prodigy]].
The commanders support the hand rather than refilling it, so prioritize draw engines from the 99. Use tutors for a missing combo piece once you have enough cards and mana; avoid spending a whole turn adding creatures when you can already threaten a win.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Cheap Commander on the Battlefield: Michelangelo costs two mana and enables the free alternative costs of [[Fierce Guardianship]] and [[Deflecting Swat]] while you control him.
Five-Color Card Pool: The combined identity gives access to tutors, draw engines and white protection ([[Silence]], [[Esper Sentinel]], [[Enlightened Tutor]], [[Smothering Tithe]]).
Two Separate Kills: Thoracle with [[Demonic Consultation]] (Consult) never touches the graveyard, so graveyard hate that stops Breach still leaves you a way to win.
Weaknesses
No Card Draw in the Command Zone: Unlike [[Tymna the Weaver]] and [[Kraum, Ludevic's Opus]], the Turtles draw nothing, so all your card advantage comes from the 99 ([[Rhystic Study]], [[Mystic Remora]], [[Pollywog Prodigy]]).
Hate Pieces: [[Rule of Law]] stops the same-turn sequences below. Graveyard hate such as [[Grafdigger's Cage]] stops escape.
Life Total: [[Ad Nauseam]], [[Necropotence]] and fetch lands cost a lot of life, and aggressive pods punish that.
Core Combos
Breach Lines
[[Underworld Breach]] + [[Lion's Eye Diamond]] + [[Brain Freeze]]
Requirements: Underworld Breach in hand, Lion's Eye Diamond and Brain Freeze in hand or graveyard, [[symbol:1]][[symbol:r]] to cast Breach in your main phase, and six expendable cards between hand and graveyard. If LED starts in the graveyard, you need nine expendable cards in total, at least three of them already in the graveyard for its first escape. Do not count the combo pieces or cards reserved for the finish as fuel. These are starting requirements for the order below; later escapes need fuel from your self-mill.
Cast [[Underworld Breach]], then cast [[Lion's Eye Diamond]] or escape it by exiling three other cards.
Discard your hand and sacrifice LED for [[symbol:u]][[symbol:u]][[symbol:u]]. Brain Freeze must now be in your graveyard.
Escape LED for [[symbol:0]], exiling three other cards. Let it resolve.
Escape [[Brain Freeze]] for [[symbol:1]][[symbol:u]], exiling three other cards. Aim enough copies at yourself to supply the next escape costs; each copy mills three cards.
Repeat steps 2 - 4 while you have the fuel. Each pass leaves one more [[symbol:u]] and adds two spells to the storm count. Split later copies between yourself and your opponents as needed.
Use enough Brain Freeze copies on each opponent to mill their remaining library.
Optional Oracle finish: If your list runs [[Thassa's Oracle]], you can instead mill your own library, keep Oracle and three other graveyard cards out of escape payments, and reserve [[symbol:u]][[symbol:u]] to escape it. Sacrifice the battlefield LED for blue before casting Oracle if needed. Let its enter trigger resolve with an empty library to win.
Note: This is a finite graveyard-fuel sequence, not an unlimited mana loop. Milling opponents does not make them lose until they try to draw. [[Necropotence]] can exile your discarded fuel before you can escape LED; graveyard hate, spell limits and forced draws also change the line.
Thassa's Oracle Lines
[[Thassa's Oracle]] + [[Demonic Consultation]] or [[Tainted Pact]]
Requirements: Thassa's Oracle and Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact in hand, with [[symbol:u]][[symbol:u]] for Oracle plus [[symbol:b]] for Consult or [[symbol:1]][[symbol:b]] for Pact. For the Pact line below, the cards remaining in your library should all have different names.
Cast [[Thassa's Oracle]].
With the enter trigger on the stack, cast [[Demonic Consultation]]. As it resolves, name a card that isn't in your library. Or cast [[Tainted Pact]] and decline to put any exiled card into your hand. Either line empties your library under these conditions.
Let the Oracle trigger resolve with an empty library to win.
Note: After your library is empty but before Oracle's trigger resolves, your own draw engines can make you lose. [[Esper Sentinel]] draws if an opponent casts their first noncreature spell that turn and declines to pay. [[Pollywog Prodigy]] draws if an opponent casts a noncreature spell with mana value less than its power. Removing the creature after its draw ability has triggered does not remove that trigger.
Some Lists: Finding the Win With Ad Nauseam or Necropotence
Neither card wins on its own. Both put cards into your hand without drawing them, but the cards you see may not include a complete, protected win.
[[Ad Nauseam]]: Finding the Kill
Requirements: [[symbol:3]][[symbol:b]][[symbol:b]] and a healthy life total.
Cast [[Ad Nauseam]] in the end step before your turn to untap with the cards, or in your main phase if you have mana left to continue.
Reveal cards and put them into your hand one at a time, losing life equal to each card's mana value. Stop while you can still survive; finding the kill and protection is not guaranteed.
Use the cards and available mana to attempt the Oracle or Breach line above. After an end-step Ad Nauseam, you normally untap first.
[[Necropotence]] + [[Borne Upon a Wind]]: Finding the Kill
Requirements: [[symbol:b]][[symbol:b]][[symbol:b]] for Necropotence, [[symbol:1]][[symbol:u]] for Borne Upon a Wind, and untapped mana sources to cast your kill in the end step. Mana floated in your main phase normally empties before then.
Cast [[Necropotence]] in your main phase.
Before the end step begins, pay life to exile cards from the top of your library face down.
In your end step, let Necropotence's delayed triggers put the exiled cards into your hand. You may find [[Borne Upon a Wind]] among them.
Once the cards are in your hand, cast Borne while at least one card remains in your library. It draws a card and lets you cast spells as though they had flash for the rest of the turn.
Cast your kill with the mana you left open, such as Thassa's Oracle with Consult.
Note: Necropotence triggers when you discard, so LED's discarded cards reach the graveyard first. With Borne already resolved, you may escape LED while those exile triggers wait and spend discarded cards on escape costs. Without that casting permission, an ordinary LED escape has to wait for an empty stack. Preserve the cards and fuel needed for the rest of the line.
Win Conditions
[[Underworld Breach]] + [[Brain Freeze]]
Use the LED line above to build storm and mill each opponent's library. They lose when they try to draw from an empty library. Passing the turn can finish the game, but an opponent who skips their draw step, such as with [[Necropotence]], may survive. Reshuffle effects and draw replacements can also prevent the finish. If your list runs [[Faerie Mastermind]], get it onto the battlefield and pay [[symbol:3]][[symbol:u]] to make everyone draw immediately. Keep enough cards in your own library for your draws, including any draw needed to find Mastermind; its activation makes you draw too.
[[Thassa's Oracle]]
Exile your library with [[Demonic Consultation]] or [[Tainted Pact]] in response to the enter trigger, or escape Oracle under [[Underworld Breach]] after milling yourself.
Tips for Playing the Turtles
Mulligan: Keep fast mana with a turn one or two draw engine, or a tutor and the mana to use it.
Make Tokens Every Turn: Leonardo's ability works once each turn, including opponents' turns. Each counter lets [[Pollywog Prodigy]] draw off a bigger spell.
Protect the Combo Turn: [[Silence]] stops opponents from casting spells that turn. Sacrificing [[Ranger-Captain of Eos]] stops their noncreature spells, and [[Voice of Victory]] restricts spells during your turn. None removes answers already on the stack. [[Borne Upon a Wind]] can open an end-step attempt, but check every opponent's interaction and keep mana for the finish.
Choose What to Protect: Letting Michelangelo die may be cheaper than spending a counterspell, but keep him if you need a commander for free interaction or [[Mox Amber]].
Conclusion
Track whether Leonardo has already placed counters this turn. Before an Oracle attempt, also check whether your own draw engines could force a draw while its trigger waits.
