Rograkh Thrasios

[[Rograkh, Son of Rohgahh]] and [[Thrasios, Triton Hero]] combine aggressive early mana development with versatile card advantage and a mana sink in the command zone. Rograkh's 0-cost enables a dense package of combos generating infinite mana while reliably turning on commander-dependent free interaction. Thrasios converts that mana into a win, while also serving as stable card advantage in grindy games. This synergy allows the deck to execute fast combos while flexibly adapting to various game states.

Strategy / Gameplan

The primary strategy focuses on leveraging Rograkh's cost-effectiveness to accelerate mana production through cards like [[Springleaf Drum]], [[Paradise Mantle]], and [[Mox Amber]]. Deploying Thrasios early enables the conversion of surplus mana into card advantage, facilitating the assembly of combo pieces. The deck plays an uncommonly high density of infinite mana combos both with and without Rograkh to exploit its consistent access to Thrasios as an outlet. The deck also packs a robust interaction suite of both countermagic and removal, helping make it resilient to disruption.

Key Synergies

  • [[Earthcraft]] and [[Relic of Legends]]: Pair with Rograkh and other creatures to generate infinite mana by untapping lands or triggering mana abilities.

  • [[Displacer Kitten]]: Enables repeated flickering of key permanents like mana rocks or [[Eternal Witness]], creating infinite loops and value.

  • [[Gaea’s Cradle]]: Generates massive amounts of green mana, scaling with the number of creatures you control and fueling explosive turns.

  • [[Underworld Breach]]: Turns your graveyard into a second hand, enabling recursion of critical spells while also comboing with cards like [[Brain Freeze]].

  • [[Seedborn Muse]]: Provides unparalleled mana advantage and inevitability by untapping all permanents during each player's turn, allowing multiple Thrasios activations per turn cycle.

Combos

[[Cloudstone Curio]] + [[Rograkh, Son of Rogahh]] + [[_____ Goblin]]

  1. Cast [[_____ Goblin]] to create red mana.

  2. Use [[Cloudstone Curio]] to bounce Rograkh and recast it, triggering Curio to return [[_____ Goblin]] to hand.

  3. Recast [[_____ Goblin]] to generate additional mana, repeating the process for infinite mana.

  4. Activate [[Thrasios, Triton Hero]] to draw your deck and assemble a win condition.

[[Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy]] + [[Basalt Monolith]]

  1. With Kinnan on the battlefield, tap [[Basalt Monolith]] for four colorless mana.

  2. Use three mana to untap the Monolith, netting one mana per iteration for infinite colorless mana.

[[Machine God's Effigy]] + [[Devoted Druid]]

  1. Copy [[Devoted Druid]] with [[Machine God's Effigy]], creating a non-creature artifact version.

  2. Utilize the Effigy's untap ability to generate infinite mana, as it can place -1/-1 counters without being destroyed.

[[Underworld Breach]]

  1. Cast [[Underworld Breach]].

  2. Cast [[Lion's Eye Diamond]].

  3. Activate [[Lion's Eye Diamond]], adding [[symbol:u]][[symbol:u]][[symbol:u]] and discarding your hand.

  4. Cast [[Brain Freeze]] from your graveyard using its escape cost and exiling 3 cards, targeting yourself with all copies.

  5. Cast [[Lion's Eye Diamond]] from your graveyard using its escape cost and exiling 3 cards.

  6. Repeat steps 3 - 5 to mill yourself until you can assemble a win condition or mill out your opponents' libraries using [[Brain Freeze]].

Win Conditions

  • Infinite Mana Combos: Generate infinite mana through the combos mentioned above, then activate [[Thrasios, Triton Hero]] to draw the deck and deploy one of the following win conditions:"

    • [[Finale of Devastation]]: Pump your board with infinite mana and swing for lethal damage.

    • [[Eternal Witness]] + [[Displacer Kitten]] + [[Lightning Bolt]]: Infinite recursion of [[Lightning Bolt]] with 1 other non-creature spell to deal infinite damage to your opponents.

  • [[Brain Freeze]]: Use [[Underworld Breach]] to repeatedly cast [[Brain Freeze]], milling out your opponents and forcing them to draw from an empty library by passing the turn or wheeling.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Free interaction: Prioritize opening hands that can exploit Rograkh not just as a means of turning on conditional mana rocks, but as a way of accessing free interaction in the form of [[Flare of Duplication]], [[Deflecting Swat]], and [[Fierce Guardianship]]. Not only can these advance or protect your path to the win, they can stop you from losing before you get the chance.

  • [[Gaea’s Cradle]]: Identify opening hands that have a pathway to Gaea’s Cradle, even if that requires chain tutoring (tutoring for a tutor.)

  • Chain Tutoring: Invest in exploring these lines using your commanders to recover in the late game from heavily disadvantaged positions. For example, [[Spellseeker]] can find [[Neoform]], sacrificing Thrasios to get [[Trophy Mage]] to find [[Cloudstone Curio]]. Using Rograkh to bounce [[Spellseeker]] with [[Cloudstone Curio]] will let you tutor for [[Finale of Devastation]] to find [[Cloud of Faeries]] or [[_____ Goblin]] to generate infinite mana.

  • Meta Awareness: Be cognizant of opponents' potential stax effects or hate pieces that could hinder combo execution, and prepare appropriate pivots or answers.

Rograkh and Thrasios finely balances speed with flexibility, utilizing layered combos for resilient, relentless win attempts.
